Potato Palya

This is a very common vegetable with Chapatis and rotis. Very easy to make, takes about 15 minutes.

Quantity Ingredient
6-8 Medium sized potatoes (Red potatoes)
2 tsp Oil
½ tsp Red Cayenne pepper powder (Red Chilli powder)
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 stalk Curry Leaves
1 pinch Asofetida (Hing)
1 pinch Turmeric powder


  1. Wash and cut the potatoes into small cubes (do not have to remove the skin). We prefer the red potatoes since it does not get mushy.
  2. Microwate the potatoes on high for 8 minutes until cooked
  3. In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds and when it starts popping, lower the flame and add turmeric powder, hing, curry leaves and chilli powder.
  4. Add the cooked potatoes and salt.
  5. Stir for a couple of minutes.
  6. Serve hot with any kind of roti or chapathi.
